NWP Practitioner Badge: Public Criteria

Summary:

The National Writing Project’s Practitioner Badge indicates that the recipient has shared their teaching practice as part of a leadership program at a local Writing Project site or through an initiative of the National Writing Project and is recognized as a teacher-leader with expertise in teaching and learning at their local Writing Project site and/or by the national network.

The mission of the National Writing Project (NWP) is to focus the knowledge, expertise, and leadership of our nation’s educators on sustained efforts to improve writing and learning for all learners. The NWP Practitioner Badge is issued to educators who complete a program of literacy learning, study, and leadership development that focuses on outcomes for making their teaching practice public, one of NWP’s Six Social Practices. These programs may be designed and administered by local Writing Project sites or by the National Writing Project.

The Practitioner Badge is issued by local Writing Project sites, or the National Writing Project, in recognition of achievements in this social practice. The badge is not subject-specific and can be issued to educators who work at any level, K-university, across the curriculum. The badge can also be issued to educators who work in educational institutions, libraries, or community settings.

NWP practitioners are teacher-leaders with demonstrated knowledge and practice of teaching writing and making their teaching practice public. Holders of this badge may work through their local Writing Project site to design and deliver professional learning programs focused on pedagogy and the teaching of writing.
