NWP Teacher-Leader Badge: Public Criteria

Curators notes:

The National Writing Project’s Teacher-Leader Badge indicates that the recipient has completed work as part of a leadership program at a local Writing Project site or through an initiative of the National Writing Project and is recognized as an experienced teacher-leader at their local Writing Project site and/or by the national network.

The mission of the National Writing Project (NWP) is to focus the knowledge, expertise, and leadership of our nation’s educators on sustained efforts to improve writing and learning for all learners. The NWP Teacher-Leader Badge is issued to educators who complete a program of literacy learning, study, and leadership development. These programs may be designed and administered by local Writing Project sites or by the National Writing Project.

The Teacher-Leader Badge is issued by local Writing Project sites, or the National Writing Project, in recognition of achievements in this NWP Social Practice. The badge is not subject-specific and can be issued to educators who work at any level, K-university, across the curriculum. The
badge can also be issued to educators who work in educational institutions, libraries, or community settings.

NWP teacher-leaders demonstrate knowledge and practice of educational leadership. Holders of this badge may work through their local Writing Project site to design and deliver professional learning programs focused on teachers as advocates. For more information about the National Writing Project or to find a local Writing Project site, visit NWP’s website.
